Renowned as a passionate, energetic and highly skilled performer, Jon Thorne’s career as a double bassist and composer has spanned a broad range of the musical spectrum. Playing with the ground breaking electronica band Lamb, Robert Fripp, Donovan, Martha Tilston and Mr. Scruff amongst many others, Jon has played in every style of music imaginable.

Yolanda Charles 12.15

Bassist Yolanda Charles had a notable start to her career in the music business playing for Jimmy Sommerville and within bands Raw Stylus and Urban Species. She began playing at 15 and played soul, funk & reggae in those early bands.

Becoming a session player occurred through invitations to work with various artists after being seen live and over the years led to working for Paul Weller, Marcella Detroit, Howard New, Pops Mohammed, Alison Moyet, Desert Eagle Discs, Gabrielle and Robbie Williams. Tony Butler 14.00

Tony Butler, is the bassist for chart-topping Scottish indie-rock stars Big Country. Since Big Country exploded on to the worldwide music scene with 1983 debut album The Crossing, Tony and the band have sold more than 10 million records, including 17 Top 30 singles and seven Top 30 albums. He has also worked with On The Air, The Pretenders, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, among others – so this is a man who knows how to craft a bassline that music fans want to hear.

 Tony has a uniquely melodic style – often employing the use of droning open strings alongside his lead lines – that contribute greatly to the band's celebrated 'Scottish' alternative rock sound. He is also a Music Lecturer at Petroc college in Devon, so the Masterclass is set to be expertly planned and delivered, although Tony will probably not be setting any homework exercises.

His approach to solo bass has influenced many and garnered praise from the likes of Victor Wooten, Michael Manring & Leland Sklar. Not to be missed.

Chris “Fatty” Hargreaves 12.15

London based bass player Chris Hargreaves will be performing a dubstep masterclass on Sunday at 12:15. Chris is one of the UK’s leading players in the genre and will be showing visitors how to achieve the tonal and stylistic nuances of dubstep’s pulsing bass lines. Chris will be joined by a drummer to illustrate the crucial interplay between bass and drums in this groove-heavy music.
